A Day in the Life: Nadia Sierko
Posted On March 21, 2025
Nadia Sierko is currently a junior at RBC pursuing her B.A. in Theology and Christian Thought with a Minor in Classical Education.
Curious to know what an average day at RBC might look like? We recently asked Nadia to share her schedule from a typical day on campus with us.
6:15 a.m. | Wake Up
I don’t like being rushed in the morning, so I try to wake up a little early. It’s nice to have time to do my devotions, get ready, and eat breakfast before my morning class. I live on campus in the residence hall, so it’s a short walk to Founders Hall, which means I have time to talk to people or grab a coffee from the RBC cafe before my class starts.
8:00–10:45 a.m. | Great Works of Tolkien with Dr. Keith Mathison
This semester, I am taking Great Works of J.R.R. Tolkien on Tuesday mornings. It’s a great class to have in the morning because it feels like waking up and listening to a literature podcast. I’d never read anything from Tolkien before this class, but I wanted to take it because Dr. Mathison is so knowledgeable about this topic. We’re reading so many of Tolkien’s works, like The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Tales from the Perilous Realm, some of Tolkien’s essays, and more.
11:00 a.m. | Room Checks
I am a resident assistant in the residence hall and I perform weekly room checks for my residents after my morning class. When conducting room checks, I look for general upkeep and good stewardship of the suites. I check the floors, appliances, countertops, and tabletops every week. It’s always fun to be able to connect with the different girls in my hall and hear what’s happening with everyone for the week while I check their rooms.
11:45 a.m. | House Leadership Meeting
I serve as president of Edwards House, so we have weekly meetings to plan new events, discuss ideas, and prepare for anything we have coming up that week. The House System is a great way to build relationships and community, and our goal with these meetings is to come up with events that will help the whole campus make memories and grow together. We just hosted the Edwards House art and film festival. For this annual event, each house creates and submits two films for a competition and the college gathers to watch them.
1:15–3:15 p.m. | Theology of the Reformation with Dr. J.V. Fesko
This is an online class, so I normally go to my friend’s suite so we can participate together. Even though it’s online, it’s a comfortable atmosphere, and there is a lot of discussion. As Tuesdays can be busy days for me, it’s very helpful that one of my classes of the day is online; it gives me a little break from the busyness to sit down and really focus on an important topic and helps me re-center for the rest of the day. Offering this class online allows us to be taught under Dr. Fesko, which is a wonderful opportunity, and this is one of my favorite classes I’ve taken at RBC so far.
6:00–8:45 p.m. | Great Works of the Rationalists and Romantics with Dr. Heidi Nichols
Tuesdays are unique because my classes are very literature-heavy, but it’s fun to be able to learn so much about so many important and thought-provoking books. I like to listen to a lot of these books as audio books throughout the week in preparation for this class, and I’ve been able to have a lot of good conversations with my friends in this class as the semester has progressed. The class itself is largely discussion based, which is fun and engaging. I’ll usually make a cup of tea in my suite and bring it with me for this nighttime literature class.
9:00 p.m. | Relax with Roommates or Friends
After spending the day in classes and meetings, it’s refreshing to be able to spend time with my roommates or other friends. We’ll just talk together, do some homework, watch a movie, or go on a walk around the pond on campus before going to bed. I try to be in bed by 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. each night, so it’s nice to be able to unwind and relax with people.
