Great Works: Rationalists and Romantics


Course Description

Reading the great works of the past helps us gain wisdom for the present. In this course, Dr. Heidi Nichols will introduce you to select works of literature, music, and art from the Enlightenment era. By studying seminal works by such figures as Austen, Bach, Beethoven, Edwards, Franklin, Goethe, Shelley, and Voltaire, you will obtain a better grasp of the individuals, ideas, and books that have shaped the modern world.

About the Instructor

Dr. Heidi L. Nichols is a resident adjunct professor at Reformation Bible College. She earned her M.A. in English from Villanova University and her Ph.D. in literature and criticism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is the author of The Fashioning of Middle-Class America: Sartain’s Union Magazine of Literature and Art and Antebellum Culture and Anne Bradstreet: A Guided Tour of the Life and Thought of a Puritan Poet.
