Doctrine of Christ

Course Description

Our only comfort in life and death is that we belong to our faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. But who is Jesus? What does it mean that Jesus is one person and two natures, and how does He accomplish our salvation? This class seeks to answer these and more questions in a deep and rigorous way by examining the person and work of Christ from a historical, biblical, and theological perspective.

Letter from the instructor

Dear Student,

I am thrilled that you are considering the opportunity to study the person and work of Christ with me this semester! I can think of no more worthy subject of our time than to learn more of our beloved Savior in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. In this course, we will traverse together the history of the doctrine of Christ, paying careful attention to the ecumenical creeds, especially Nicaea and Chalcedon to familiarize ourselves with the important debates and questions. We will then work through major texts of Scripture that give answers to these questions. Finally, we will summarize the content of Scripture by drawing up the doctrine of Christ. By the end, our goal is to have a view of Christ that is rigorously historical, biblical, and theological.
