Why We Chose RBC: Brooke and Connor King

Posted On November 06, 2024

After becoming friends through the Reformation Chorale, it wasn’t long before Brooke and Connor began to see in one another the kind of traits that they desired in a spouse.

Over the next several months, Brooke and Connor spent more time with one another and with each other’s families. They also started studying Scripture together to consider God’s design for a husband and wife.

“We each knew that the other person was a godly individual that we wanted to devote ourselves to in the service of God for the rest of our earthly lives.”

Connor proposed to Brooke a short time later, and two years after meeting at RBC, the couple was married.

Connor and Brooke identified their shared faith and mutual studies at RBC as two factors that enabled them to connect and pursue a relationship. Their shared values and interests set the stage for meaningful conversations about marriage and life after school.

“Being believers united to Christ, both RBC and our mutual faith stimulated great conversation and allowed us to have very foundational conversations quite early on.”

Being married while in school has meant added responsibilities for Connor and Brooke, and they both have less free time than they used to. However, the couple says that what they’ve gained from marriage far outweighs any of the strain they’ve experienced.

They’ve had to learn how to sacrifice for, serve, and love one another. Their experience has also led them to encourage others who might be considering marriage as well.

“Though it depends on the circumstances of the individuals, let our testimony at least be an encouragement: in our experience, the pursuit of marriage is always worth it. It is this truth that has led both of us to firmly believe that in everything we’ve given up for each other, we have gained much more.”

Now that they’re nearing the end of their time at RBC, Connor and Brooke are prayerfully considering what they’ll do after graduation. Brooke hopes to finish her degree with a Minor in Reformed Classical Education so she can teach at a Christian school, while Connor has plans to pursue seminary with pastoral ministry in view.

No matter where they go, their primary aspiration is to serve the Lord and His kingdom.

“Ultimately, it is our joyful hope to grow our family with children in the pursuit of furthering the kingdom of God and fruitfully multiplying His image in godly children for generations to come!”
