Why I Chose RBC: Connor Foster

Posted On July 24, 2024

As he was nearing the completion of his associate’s degree at a local community college, Connor Foster was trying to determine where God was leading him next. One day, his father casually mentioned the possibility of attending RBC. Intrigued, Connor signed up to attend a Preview Day on campus.

“I fell in love with the campus, and to be honest, I didn’t know a place like this could exist . . . and all the professors and staff seemed great.”

Even though he enjoyed his visit to the campus, Connor was still unsure. He decided to sign up for a few online classes at RBC to help him make his decision. As he began the courses, Connor noticed something unique about the professors and the theological curriculum.

“I realized that the way they teach is unlike anything I had experienced. It was such a contrast to the community college I was attending. Most of the work there seemed like busy work. At RBC, I was being challenged, but not only that, I was enjoying the subject matter.”

While Connor was taking the online courses, he also began listening to the weekly chapel messages. Hearing the preaching of his professors caused him to realize that in addition to the academic rigor he was enjoying in his classes, there was a warmth of devotion and care exhibited by his instructors.

“I was able to see the heart behind the men down here. After seeing that, I decided I had to come and be taught by this caliber of men who genuinely love the Lord and love their students.”

Connor could see himself growing both intellectually and spiritually, and this ultimately led him to enroll at RBC. Now that he’s a full-time student, Connor believes his decision to attend RBC has had a profound impact on him.

“RBC has changed me, and I believe for the better. There is a culture at RBC of striving toward godliness, which is so encouraging. . . . It is such a refreshing environment to be in. It has been like a breath of fresh air.”

Beyond his own experience, Connor has also enjoyed getting to know other students and hearing how the Lord is working in the lives of young men and women from a variety of backgrounds.

“It is always so amazing to hear everyone’s stories. . . . The common thread is watching the providence of God in their lives. God has been so gracious to all of us. Whether a person has a difficult background or a picture-perfect family, both have equal grounds to rejoice in the loving-kindness of God.”

Once he completes his degree at RBC, Connor plans to attend seminary with the hopes of eventually pursuing pastoral ministry.
