Posted On April 17, 2023
As one of RBC’s resident directors, Jordan Berntson serves the students living in our residence halls by maintaining a positive living environment and community. She leads the three resident assistants on her floor in the residence hall and also leads a dorm Bible study for women. She often meets with students to provide counsel and encouragement. Mrs. Berntson earned her B.S. in nursing from Mississippi College. Previously, she has worked as a nurse at Brookdale Senior Living in Clinton, MS, and as a CNA at Clarkson Healthcare in Rapid City, SD.
We recently sat down with Mrs. Berntson to ask her about her life, faith, and work at RBC.
Why do you enjoy working at RBC?
I absolutely love getting to know the students and building relationships with them.
What aspect of working with students do you find most rewarding?
It is very encouraging and rewarding to watch students grow and mature spiritually as they learn and embrace who God has created them to be and then use their gifts to glorify God.
How would you describe the community at RBC?
The community here at RBC is very welcoming, caring, and encouraging.
How have you seen students mature in their walk with Christ while attending RBC?
Through our discussion-based discipleship groups, I have seen students become more comfortable and confident in adding to the discussion by referring to Scripture passages or sharing what God has taught them as their relationship with Christ matures.
When and how did you come to faith in Christ?
I came to faith in Christ when I was about six years old. Shortly after my parents became believers, my family was doing devotions together one night in my bedroom. They shared the gospel with me, and I knew I needed Christ to save me from my sins.
What’s your favorite book of the Bible or favorite author?
I would have to say Romans is my favorite book of the Bible.
Have you traveled overseas for missions? If so, where?
In high school, I went on a three-week mission trip to Brazil, which is where I first met Levi, my husband. We served at a Bible camp, seminary, and orphanage by spending time with the children, sharing Bible stories, adding a fresh coat of paint to multiple buildings, and doing yard work.
When you’re going on a trip, what are your travel essentials?
Whenever I go on a road trip, I always make sure I have plenty of fun snacks with me. Lately, my favorite travel snacks are sour gummy worms, Snickers, and Chex Mix.
What do you have a passion for?
I have a passion for providing quality care to those around me, whether it is physically, mentally, or spiritually.
What are your favorite hobbies or pastimes?
I am always down to play a game of volleyball. It has been so fun having a volleyball net up on RBC’s campus the last few months. I also enjoy baking cookies, bars, and cakes.
Do you have children?
So far, my husband and I have one daughter, Thea Felicity, who will be one year old in June.
What activities do you enjoy doing in Florida?
I love being able to be outside all year round, either going for walks around campus, swimming, or just hanging out on the beach. I am originally from Minnesota, so the warm, sunny weather in Florida is such a blessing.
