Pursuing Our Vocation for God’s Glory

“Theology for life.” As I reflect on my time at RBC, this phrase resounds in my heart. When I first came to RBC, I knew I would be studying theology. I knew I would be diving deep into the Scriptures and reading the works of great men who have gone before us. And yet, I had no idea how much RBC would prepare me for life. Whether through the required reading or the classroom lectures, our professors continually challenge us that theology should penetrate the whole person, moving from our heads to our hearts to our hands. I have learned that theology must be followed by application, transforming our daily lives.

One of the last classes seniors take at RBC is Vocation. Practical in its design, the goal of this class is to prepare students for their next season of life. Some students come to RBC to prepare for the pastorate; others come to gain a theological foundation before entering the workforce. This class equips students to write résumés, format cover letters, and prepare for interviews. While the class has many practical elements, it also dives deep into doctrine. Rooted in biblical anthropology, this class summons its students to embody their vocation as a sacred calling from God. When we find the harmony between our practical ability and theological mindset, we can pursue vocation for His glory.

One of the highlights of the Vocation class is the opportunity to meet people across many disciplines. From CEOs, to educators, to missionaries, this class allows students to grapple with the joys and challenges of being a Christian in the workforce. Sitting under the mentorship of these professionals, students gain incredible insight and wisdom. As a senior this year, I’ve found that the Vocation class has truly been a highlight of my time at RBC. It has been an honor and privilege to learn from faithful Christians striving to live in light of God’s calling.

As I end my time at RBC, I am so thankful for how the faculty and staff have taught me to live my life in the presence of God. Whether we become leaders in our churches, auto mechanics in our communities, or mothers in the home, theology permeates the entirety of our lives. No matter what vocational field we are called to, Christians fulfill their calling by relying on God’s grace and walking humbly. Bought by the precious blood of Christ, we have been redeemed for a great purpose: to know Him, worship Him, and serve Him.
