A Day in the Life: Ethan Montgomery

Posted On April 02, 2025

Ethan Montgomery is currently a junior at RBC pursuing his B.A. in Theology and majoring in Biblical Studies.

Curious to know what a day at RBC might look like? We recently asked Ethan to share his schedule from a typical day on campus with us.

4:30–11:00 a.m. | Wake Up and Work

I usually begin my day (on Mondays) reading a psalm or two and then go to work from 5:00 to 11:00 a.m. Sometimes I juggle work and classes by waking up earlier in the morning, but most of the time I read on Saturdays and finish up any leftover reading on Monday.

12:30–4:30 p.m. | Romans and Hebrew II

From about 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., I have two classes—Romans with Dr. Dudreck and Hebrew II with Dr. Shaw—held in Founders Hall. There’s a fifteen-minute break between classes, and I usually spend that time outside, either enjoying the fresh air or discussing lecture content with friends.

I enjoy Romans with Dr. Dudreck for two reasons. First, he engages differing theological views seriously, explaining with care why certain interpretations don’t align with Scripture. Second, he challenges us by strongmanning opposing views, prompting us to wrestle with key exegetical questions before offering a response.

In Hebrew II, I appreciate the camaraderie with fellow students as we work through the complexities of the language. Hebrew has been a challenge for me, but I’m growing to see its beauty.

I highly recommend Romans to any student seeking to understand the gospel more deeply, even if they’re not pursuing ministry. Dr. Dudreck fosters a love for exegesis and interpreting Scripture in context. As for Hebrew, it’s essential for those entering ministry, and any student eager to dive deeper into God’s Word will find it a rewarding challenge.

5:00 p.m. | Study

If this were a Friday, I’d likely be enjoying a house event, such as a frisbee tournament or trivia night. But since this is a typical Monday, I usually spend a few hours studying—either in the library or at my house.

When studying, I prefer an environment with a comfortable balance—not too loud, but not completely silent either. For exams, quizzes, or language tests, I often study with classmates, though I find I’m most productive when studying on my own. The “Great Works” classes usually involve the most reading, often requiring a full book or half of one each week.

7:00 p.m. | Church Activities

On Monday nights, my church hosts a Bible study for young adults which includes a time of prayer, fellowship, and snacks.
