Advice for New Students

Posted On August 09, 2023

As the summer comes to a close, we’re looking forward to welcoming more than 160 new students to study with us online and on campus this fall. To help these students prepare to join our student body, we asked several current students to share some words of wisdom with them.

“Come to RBC with one desire: to know and love God more. This desire will allow you to get as much from this experience as possible. Come to RBC because you love God and want Him to guide every aspect of your life. Come here with His will in the front of your mind, and take that priority with you into each class, assignment, activity, and relationship you experience here.” —Sarah, Certificate in Theology

“Serve the body of Christ, whether in your education at RBC or in a local church. Your studies are not meant to be kept to yourself, but to equip you to serve others.” —Chandler, Associate of Arts in Theology

“Take notes, notes, and more notes. Studying your class materials will help you to become a better writer and will strengthen you to serve in any place you are called after graduating.” —Gaylon, Certificate in Theology (Online)

“I’d tell every incoming student that the best thing he or she can do is to seek wisdom from their professors. Another thing I’d tell them is that they need to be invested and involved in a local church. While their studies will demand much of them, the place that God has designed for us to grow is with His people. The final thing I’d tell a new student is to do things to cultivate a thankful and joyful spirit during their time at RBC. Growing in our knowledge and love for Christ should be a joy.” —Tucker, Bachelor of Arts in Theology

“Remember that we are called to work dutifully before the Lord, bringing Him the glory that is owed to Him.” —Kylie, Certificate in Theology (Online)

“Make sure you complete your reading and watch every lecture, because they are pivotal in the papers that you will write.” —Chad, Certificate in Theology (Online)

“Do not be anxious! There are moments where you can be in your head, but at RBC you will have the opportunity to get to know so many godly people, especially your professors, who take care to help build you up.” —Kaden, Certificate in Theology

“My advice for new students is to invest in studying the Bible and to make friends who do the same.” —Caleb, Associate of Arts in Theology

“Intentionally invest time in personal Bible study and prayer to prepare for this pivotal time of academics, spiritual growth, and social maturation. I would also suggest becoming well-read in classical literature, both theological and historical, and seeking to appreciate the process of learning. Ultimately, RBC is an exceptional place to gain a firm foundation in faith, study, and society.” —Sarah, Certificate in Theology (Online)

“Always be willing to ask for help and seek advice from professors and other students. They are there for you and want to help. Above all, make your main goal to seek God in what you are studying and to honor and glorify Him with your work.” —Soren, Certificate in Theology (Online)
