Announcing Our 2021 Essay Contest Winners
Posted On April 09, 2021
As Martin Luther and the other Reformers responded to the crisis of authority in their day by declaring sola Scriptura, the essays for our 2021 Essay Contest contest also addressed the need to declare Scripture’s authority 500 years later. For the opportunity to win a full scholarship for his or her first year of tuition, students were challenged to answer this question in a compelling and persuasive manner: “As we look to Luther’s heroic stand at Worms in 1521, how do we live according to God’s Word as our sole authority in 2021?”
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2021 Essay Contest and recipient of a full-year tuition scholarship is Reagan from Virginia. Reagan’s exemplary essay demonstrated clear and persuasive thinking on the topic of “Here I Stand,” exhibiting careful theological reflection, biblical exposition, and practical application for the Christian life. Here is a note from Reagan expressing her gratitude as she looks forward to joining the RBC family in the fall:
“I am so thankful to be selected as the winner of this year’s essay contest. I’ve dreamed of attending RBC since fifth grade, and this helps my dream come true. However, I take none of the credit. Without the support, teaching, and regular exhortation of my church, my pastor and elders, and my parents and teachers, I never could have achieved this. Over all else, I give glory to God and thank Him for His faithfulness and provision in my life. Soli Deo gloria!”
Several other submissions deserve recognition. Taina from Texas and Kate from Ohio also earned a runner-up scholarship for their outstanding work.
Thank you to everyone who entered the contest. Please join us in congratulating our winners.
This year’s essay topic aligns with the theme of Here We Stand, a special online streaming event from Ligonier Ministries. Join Ligonier on April 13, 2021, beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET, as they explore the essential truths championed in the Protestant Reformation. Together with our president, Dr. Stephen Nichols, watch as Nathan W. Bingham, Sinclair Ferguson, W. Robert Godfrey, Steven Lawson, Ken Mbugua, Sugel Michelén, Burk Parsons, Michael Reeves, and Derek Thomas consider the relevance of these truths for people of all ages around the world and be encouraged to stand with conviction on the Word of God today.
