Announcement of Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr. to Rector & Chair of Philosophy and Theology
Posted On February 27, 2014
As Reformation Bible College (RBC) continues to grow, so does our need for gifted and godly professors and administrators to carry out the vision of the school. To that end, RBC President Dr. R.C. Sproul Sr. and the Board of Directors of Ligonier Academy of Biblical and Theological Studies are pleased to announce the promotion and appointment of Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr. to the position of rector of theology and chair of the Department of Philosophy and Theology.
On the occasion of this announcement, Dr. R.C. Sproul Sr. said, “We are grateful to God for Dr. Sproul Jr.’s unwavering commitment to Scripture and service to Reformation Bible College, and we look forward to many more years of his teaching and leadership as we seek to educate the next generation of Christian leaders in the things of God. He has seen the impact of Ligonier Ministries from the beginning, knows how I approach theological matters, and in this way, provides us with yet another way to maintain theological continuity and fidelity for the next generation.”
Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr. brings a wealth of experience in teaching and administration to his new role at RBC. As the founder and director of Highlands Ministries, he has long shepherded an organization that has as one of its goals the training of Christians to live for the kingdom of God in every vocation. Additionally, his teaching both inside and outside the classroom has been extensive, and his ability to address a wide audience that includes academics, pastors, and laypeople serves him well as he teaches courses in philosophy, theology, apologetics and Great Works. Most importantly, his firsthand knowledge of the life and ministry of the founder of Reformation Bible College—Dr. R.C. Sproul Sr.—will provide steady guidance as the college endeavors to be faithful to Dr. Sproul Sr.’s vision to teach nothing but the historic truths of biblical Christianity as understood in the consensus of the Reformed tradition.
“I am grateful and happily burdened by the opportunity and calling to serve in protecting the integrity of the vision of Reformation Bible College,” Dr. Sproul Jr. said. “I pray we’ll never forget the wisdom of the great Puritan poet Milton, ‘The end then of learning is to repair the ruins of our first parents by regaining to know God aright, and out of that knowledge to love him, to imitate him, to be like him.’ ”
Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr. is a graduate of Grove City College in Grove City, Pa. (BA in philosophy and literature), Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Fla. (MA in theological studies), and Whitefield Theological Seminary in Lakeland, Fla. (DMin). In addition to leading Highlands Ministries, he also serves as a teaching fellow for Ligonier Ministries and travels extensively as a conference speaker to teach pastors and laypeople around the world on subjects including the family, Christian education, theology, and pastoral ministry. He is also an accomplished author, having published several books and teaching series such as Bound for Glory, Tearing Down Strongholds, The Call to Wonder, Biblical Economics, Economics for Everybody, and more. Dr. Sproul Jr. is the editor of Every Thought Captive and was the editor of Tabletalk magazine for many years. He has also contributed columns and articles to publications including Homeschooling Today, World magazine, and several others. Currently, he also serves as the senior pastor of Ascension Presbyterian Church, a congregation of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Apopka, Fla.
Please join us in praying for Dr. Sproul Jr. and Reformation Bible College as Dr. Sproul Jr. assumes this new position.
